University Malaya Softball Team

Being a softball player since secondary school, I am delighted in getting know that University Malaya, my choice of higher education institute, has a softball team with a great coach, Coach Syah. He has been with the team since 2007 (if not mistaken), and has led the team in getting a medal in almost every tournament the team has participated in. So, I am writing this is just to promote that if you are interested to continue playing softball, you may choose to study at University of Malaya, located in Kuala Lumpur and near to Petaling Jaya.

Here I would put some photos from our recent tournament at POLIMAS, Jitra, Kedah for Liga IPT (Higher Education Institution Softball League). We managed to proceed to the finals and earned a silver medal for being 1st Runner's Up.

Every different tournament with different team combination, but everyone in the team stays together like a big family. Seniors taking care of the juniors and juniors being so well-behaved and willing to learn from zero. Nothing could beat us with us positive attitude which focus on the team rather than opponents. We care everyone like our sisters and tried so hard to bring everyone up so that everyone  could play the game happily.

Our UM Softball Team Coach Syah

First of all, let me introduce to all of you our most important person for UM Softball Team, our coach, Coach Syah. He has been with our team for more than 10 years. One of the most dedicated coach I have ever met. He spares his time from heavy work load and family time, to train all of us from zero, until we became somebody in this game. He is always there with the team for every tournament, not just to coach and guide us for games, but also to teach us life lessons to be a better person. Although he may be strict at times, but he is all out for the team. He sacrifices his time and even went on fasting until we achieved what we deserve during games. He never sit aside during trainings, but work out together with us, motivates and sometimes push us through our limits, making us to be better rather than being the best. Behind every great team, there is a great coach, and Coach Syah is definitely the one for UM softball team. We are all fortunate to have Coach Syah for all his guidance and teachings. Thank you Coach! You have our full respect!

We are grateful to be sponsored by Maybank this year for this league, which contributes to our success for this Liga IPT. We hope to have more sponsors for our future games, so that more interested juniors could continue to join without being burdened by travelling costs and compensate for their training time instead of going for part-time jobs. Every contribution counts for every athlete. We put in effort more than just money and time, but sacrifice our holidays, our sweat and tears, our physical conditions, our health, for the name of the university and also for the love of this game.

We are awake before sunrise, train from morning till night, and play under the hot sun and rain. Any weather conditions could not stop us from being determined to play softball wholeheartedly. We are grateful for every opportunity given. To our coach, to our manager, to our sponsors, to University Malaya, to our teammates, thank you for everything.

This is not the end yet, continue to play for the team, for those who share the same passion with you, so that others may benefit from the game of softball too. We learn more in a team. Learn to respect, forgive, to be responsible, to be persevere, to give, to be able to withstand pain, to be grateful, to have empathy, and other essential values which we could not gain from books and lectures. All these we learnt to be more humane and for the good of all beings. Join us for softball if you are studying in University Malaya too. We are all here to guide you all. Welcome to our big family!
